The US FDA is Set to Establish a New Advisory Committee for Evaluating Genetic Metabolic Disease Treatments

- The US FDA is in the process of forming an Genetic Metabolic Diseases Advisory Committee to provide technical & scientific advice or recommendations on technical, scientific & policy issues regarding treatments for genetic metabolic diseases
- The committee will evaluate evidence on key issues related to the applications & will advise the US FDA on products used to diagnose, prevent, or treat these diseases under the supervision of the Division of Rare Diseases and Medical Genetics
- The advisory committee, consisting of 9 members incl. a committee chairperson, will include experts in metabolic genetics, inborn errors, small population trial design, translational science, paediatrics, epidemiology & statistics who will serve overlapping terms of up to 4yrs.
